The blessing of God makes rich
The blessing of God makes rich and he adds no sorrow with it
(Proverbs 10:22) The Lord’s blessing therefore is the heart desire of every man. However in our modern society the definition of blessing has been grossly misunderstood to mean having wealth but this is not true the passage says this blessing causes one to be rich but it is not riches. Thus everybody loves to be rich and so most people pursue blessing. Yet many seek it wrongly. At times they bargain it with God. God if you bless me I will give you—or they would even reverse it God I give you ( or I promise you —so please bless me. Well knowledge brings faith and perverse knowledge fosters perverse faith. Thus in this massage the right meaning of blessing of God and how it would be received is discussed.
What is blessing?
According Am Trace (my sword) when God blesses he bestows that efficacy which renders his blessing effectual. His blessing are either spiritual or temporal bodily or mental but in everything they really convey the good which they import. Also according to English dictionary a blessing is
some kind of divine or super natural aid, or reward
A pronouncement invoking divine aid
The act of declaring or bestowing favour approval. Now from the two definitions above it is obvious that a blessing from God is a power that is directed towards bringing some good to man. It is the power of God that is directed to man to fulfill some pronouncements made upon such a person. Thus it is the power of God through spoken words directed towards man’s aid. So from the above it can be seen that blessing is not money or wealth or health. No the blessing of God is the power of God that follows a man to fulfill a certain purpose in that man’s life. Apprentice served for seven years and this master reed him without giving him any financial aid. After staying for a period of time his mother called him and blessed him and gave him just a thousand naira only and he left the village to struggle with life young man left the village and prayed the role of a middle man in the market until he was able to get up to one hundred thousand naira. Then one someday donours well called for and he donated Twenty thousand naira and the man of God prayed for him. The following week he made enough money as one man bought goods worth of two million naira through him. From there he was able to set up a little business of his own. The day he was giving this testimony he testified how he had married and had finished building his house in the village. This is the power of God! The blessing of God could be bestowed upon a person through the prophetic words of man or directly from God. however if through man such word must be from God or else it becomes good wishes and not a blessing—– blessing must be efficacious. Two parts of a blessing
A blessing has two parts. The first is the spoken word and the next is the power that fulfils the spoken word. The spoken defines the direction of the blessing which we have already said could be spiritual or physical bodily or mental. When God bless Abraham Solomon David etc. he defined his blessing. The definition aids faith and hope as it creates expectancy and trust. It also fosters love and joy as it gladdens the heart of the recipient and creates thankful heart and love for the bestowed (may God release your own blessing today in Jesus name)
I remember the joy that came into my heart when I was in school suffering for lack of sponsorship and one day I was with Jesus and his disciples. Suddenly a thought came into me. Run into the temple ahead of Jesus and wait for him so that he could bless you. While running I was saying, Lord forgives me. By the time I reached the temple Jesus was already there and I knelt down before him. He laid his two hands on me and said to the crowd they’re in; he shall experience a great joy whenever he shall stand. When he said that I burst into joy and dancing and he smiled at me. O what a great joy and comfort in my heart when I woke up. Today I am still experiencing that joy and I ever remain thankful unto God. While in suffering I know by that I would soon be a living joy that blessing took away pain in my sufferings then and literary fulfilled in my life today. Finally the power is the invisible finger of God that follows any man blessed of God Ezra and Nehemiah would always say according to the hand of God upon my life. (Ezra 7:1-5)
Remember without this power the pronouncement becomes simply a good wish. It is the power of God that makes a blessing a blessing. Without it there will be no accomplishment but with it no power can stop it.
The blessing of God upon man – (Genesis 1:28-30)
28 And God blessing them, and God said unto them be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it. And have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
29 And God said behold I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed, to you it shall be for meat.
30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat, and it was so.
Right here the blessing of God foe man is defined. Here it was shown that man was given power to bear fruit and it multiply and power over every created thing. Everything created had been subjected under men. He received dominion over creation and thus can control all trees, animals and birds. This is man’s position until he lost his authority to sin. However glory be to God that Jesus received this authority back from satan. When he paid the price for man’s sin
Then Jesus approached them and told them,
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me”
Today every believer partakes of this blessing.
He has authority and power over the entire creation.
In the Old Testament, Moses demonstrated this
Authority over the red sea, over the animals, and
Over creation at large. Daniel lived with a lion over night while Shadrack, Mishak and Abednego were cast into fire but fire could not touch them. Today Christ is an example of a complete man with the complete authority and glory. Notwithstanding the believer has the blessing of authority over sicknesses and devil and what the bind on earth shall bound in heaven?
And Jesus came and spoke unto them saying All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you and 10 I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
And these signs shall follow them that believe. In my name shall they cast out devils, they shall speak with new tongues they shall take up serpents and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall receiver (Mark 16;17-18)
Likewise the believer has also the blessing of the inheritance of the saints. They have the blessing of the promises of God. However these were general blessings of the believers. There also personal blessings which any believer can receive directly from God. Paul received the blessing of being the apostle to the Gentiles. This was his calling. So minus the common blessings bestowed upon believers in Christ there are also personal and individual blessings one can receive from God.
Blessing of the fathers
A father is one’s immediate ancestor. He is has the responsibility of upbringing his child. He provides him with food clothing shelter and sponsorship. This is about the biological father. Yet we have the spiritual fathers who nurture their children in the Lord and must give account of them on the last day. For these reasons, the father has the authority to bless and to curse. He also has the ability to break the vows made by either the children or the mother. (Numbers 30:1-end)
Now we will consider the blessing of Isaac and Jacob. When Isaac grew old he decided to bless Esau and so he made his intention know to him. Unfortunately Rebecca his wife heard that and instigated Jacob to go for the blessing. Eventually Jacob came and took the blessing taking advantage of his father’s blindness. The bible said, that shortly after the blessing Esau came in when Isaac discovered that it was Jacob instead of Esau that took the blessing he trembled exceedingly. (Genesis 27:33)
Yet after trembling he could not alter the blessing. Instead he gave him a lesser blessing and brought him under Jacob his brother. Now what lessons must we learn in this story? First he who gets the blessing gets all. This is why in the olden days people struggle to get their father’s blessing. Jacob struggle for this and took it away from Esau this is why and how Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac” and gave gift to the sons of his concubines
According to Gill bible commentary, Abraham gave Isaac all that he had “By his last will and testament not all out of his own hand while he lived at least he reserved somewhat for himself and for gifts to his other children? So as you can see the blessing is the all. Abraham gave him the promises of God and that is the greatest. According to Clarke’s bible commentary Abraham gave him His principal flocks and especially his right to the land of Canaan including a confirmation to him and his posterity of whatever was contained in the promises of God. So the blessing of the father is the ultimate in one’s life. Unfortunately many these days do not care blessing their children and likewise many children care not to receive blessing from their parents, this is not good. We must go back to the old culture of blessing our children and seeking blessing from our parents. Secondly note how Isaac trembled exceedingly and yet could not revere the blessing. This is true of blessing. Isaac recognized that Jacob deceived him and yet that was not enough to reverse the blessing into a curse or at least cancel it. Instead he said and he shall surely be blessing. One of the reasons for this is because blessing comes through spoken word and once uttered no man has the power to retrieve or reverse it. This is why we must be careful in what we say. Do not be in a hassle to utter a blessing or a curse. Let your word of blessing be guided by the Holy Spirit. And finally rejoice if have the blessing of your father because they shall surely come to fulfillment unless they were mere wishes from your dad. However have faith in those words and expect God to bring to fulfillment.
Human Agents that can bless
Minus the direct blessing which one can receive from God and his father another human agents that has the capacity to bestow blessings of God upon him is the pastor (Numbers 6:22-27)
From here it is obvious that the priests have the power to bestow the blessings of God upon the people of God. In the Old Testament God command Moses to teach Aaron to how to bless the children of Israel. Today our high priest is Jesus. He has the capacity to bestowing blessing upon his people. However you may not see him physically walking in the church today but he lives in his follower. We believe in the priesthood of all believers and so every believer has the ability to bestow blessing others. However we have the fivefold ministers ordained by God for the edification of the saints. They have the special capacity to bestowing blessing upon the flock of Jesus. They include the apostles, the prophets the teacher the evangelists and the saints and so they have the authority to bless the saints. Thus from ongoing it is obvious that your pastor has the ability to bless. And here I lament that a lot of believers do not care for such blessing again. We must get up to seek the blessing of our fathers. Elisha got his anointing through Elijah. When Elijah was taken away from him he was shouting my father my father Paul reminded Timothy of the gift he received from him through the laying of his hands. If you desire a blessing go to your pastor and seek the blessing from him and you shall surely be blessed. If he speaks the word of blessing on your life it must surely come to pass. Finally note the words of blessing that god asked Moses to teach Aaron. It says May the Lord bless you. This means that the Lord would bring spiritual and material blessing upon them. The blessing of long life, the blessings of health and healing the blessing of marriage
The blessing of fruitfulness
The blessing of greatness
The blessing of favour
The blessing of prosperity
The blessing of peace
The blessing of protection
The blessing of heaven at last
Many the Lord makes his face shines on you and is gracious to you. Also in the blessing, God asked Aaron to bestow the blessing of grace. Grace is the power to achieve what man cannot achieve ordinarily through his effort. It is the New Testament word for favour. It is an unmerited favour. This is what God desires that the priest should bestow upon the Israelites and he God, would make them come to pass. May the Lord lift up his countenance on you and give you peace Here the blessing attracts the good countenance of God and the people and also make God give them peace. The word countenance means the appearance conveyed by a person’s face. It also means “endorse meant” formal and explicit approval” thus God desires to convey by his facial approval an endorsement of peace in the life of his children. This peace of God here is a subject to be studied in detail just as this grace of God however it is the Hebrew word shalom. According to stronger definition, it means completeness, soundness welfare, peace” (a)completeness (in number)(b)safety, soundness, (in body) (c) welfare, health prosperity, (d) peace, quiet, tranquility contentment, (e) peace, friendship of human relationship, and with God especially in covenant relationship, (f) peace (from war) (g) peace (as adjective). So you can see that God’s peace desires completeness of blessing, safety, welfare, peace in its entire ramification – normally peace of mind, peace with man, and peace with God. These are what God wants every man to possess.
The Lord keeps thee:
The word keep is translated from the Hebrew word “Sharma” according to strong definition, it means to keep guard, observe, and give heed. Thus it means that the Lord will be in charge of your life and your blessing. He would be your guard and so protect you. From here it is observed that the blessing of the Lord dose not only make one rich, it protects. So that when God blesses a person he also protects him. When God givens one riches he guard it. A lot of people are deceived into blessing that their enemies can take away their blessing but it is not true. The blessing of God makes rich and adds no sorrows. The blessing of God comes with protection. Thus David said. He prepares a table before me in the midst of my enemies. Yea! Even in the midst of enemies the blessing of God makes rich. Hence Joseph was not demined of his blessing irrespective of his brother’s conspiracy. I pray that no matter the devices of your enemies the blessing of God upon you life shall sure manifest in Jesus name. Thus be not discouraged. The blessing upon you life can never be destroyed. In short without battles, I think I can almost say that there is no blessing. The battles are because of the blessing. Both man and satan desires that the blessing will never materialize. This is why we have battle for destiny but do not worry unless you disappoint yourself, the blessing of God cannot disappoint you. Therefore bless you. Be blessed.
